PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan has warned Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli that he will sue him if he does not apologise within seven days for pointing out that the contractor involved in Expo Negaraku was his brother.
The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said during a press conference on Dec 11 that he had disclosed that his lawyers were instructed to offer a legal viewpoint on the matter.
After studying the lawyers' viewpoint, Abdul Rahman said he instructed for legal action to be initiated against Rafizi.
"Following this, my lawyers issued a letter of demand dated Jan 5, 2018 to Rafizi through registered mail and personal delivery on the same day.
"However, the letter could not be delivered personally because Rafizi was not at his office at the Pandan parliamentary constituency service centre.
"A second attempt to deliver the letter to him was done yesterday at the same address. However, Rafizi was not at his office again. Due to this, the letter of demand was accepted by a staff at the service centre," he added.
Abdul Rahman said the letter demands that Rafizi Ramli retracts his statement and publishes an apology to Abdul Rahman within seven days of the letter.
Rafizi had in December claimed that PICO Integrated Exhibit Sdn Bhd's chief executive officer was Abdul Rahman's brother.
The firm was the contractor for the Expo Negaraku exhibition, a month-long event that ran from Nov 15 to Dec 15 last year at Dataran Merdeka.
After Abdul Rahman refuted this, Rafizi admitted that he had made a mistake.
Rafizi apologised to the PICO Integrated Exhibit Sdn Bhd's CEO for his mistake, but refused to apologise to Abdul Rahman.
The Pandan MP said he was happy if Abdul Rahman wanted to sue him because he would be able to subpoena witnesses through the legal system.
