Review e-voting or revert to conventional voting

SHAH ALAM: The PKR e-voting system must be reviewed following its weak implementation during the recent party election in Kedah and Penang on Saturday.
Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari said he hoped the party leaders would decide if the elections should continue with the system or go back to the conventional method.
"I believe the party will have a meeting in the next one or two days to review the e-voting programme. For us in Selangor which is among the last states to vote, it is important to us that the quality of service and implementation is improved."
Speaking to reporters after attending a roundtable discussion on Budget 2019 here today, Amirudin said among the things that had to be improved was the voter registration and a slow system.
He was commenting on problems in the e-voting system which resulted in the voting process in Kedah being cancelled while those in four states, namely Perlis, Perak, Negri Sembilan and Malacca postponed to a date which has yet to be determined.
On the call by certain parties that PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail be held responsible for the issue, Amirudin refused to comment further except to say that the matter must be discussed at the party meeting to ensure a better and more organised voting process.
Commenting on the results of the PKR election in Penang where Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali defended his post as party deputy president, Amirudin said this was due to the long-time support given by the Economic Affairs Minister to Penang and PKR.
Meanwhile, in Sungai Petani, the Jerai Keadilan Youth division is ready to provide all evidence of the fracas which occurred during the election held at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Choong Hwa, Gurun, here on Saturday.
Its head, Mohammed Firdaus Johari, said there were photographic and video evidence which would be handed over to the Central Election Committee (JPP) and the PKR Disciplinary Board soon.
"I will sending the evidence, including all the videos and photographs to the JPP and Disciplinary Board so that they can take strict action," he told reporters after lodging a report on the incident at the Kuala Muda District Police Headquarters, here today. — Bernama
