RMAF's Institute of Aviation Medicine among world's best

SUBANG: The infrastructure and technology at the Institute of Aviation Medicine (IAM) of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) are among the best in the world, and have produced high-quality aircraft pilots.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the excellent facilities available at the IAM prompted the air force of countries such as Australia, Thailand and the Philippines to send their pilots for training here.
"This shows that we have the expertise and advantages over some developed countries. The IAM prepares RMAF pilots in mental and physical health and improve their skills in handling aircraft," he said after visiting the IAM at Subang RMAF Base here, today.
It is understood that more than 10 countries including India, Brunei and Pakistan have expressed their desire to send air force pilots for training at the IAM.
The IAM provides various forms of aerophysiology training and studies for RMAF pilots and personnel.
Among the aerophysiological training provided are High G, Hypoxia Indoctrination, Ejection Seat and Spatial Disorientation.
During the visit, Hishammuddin inspected RMAF assets including the Nuri (Sikorsky S-61A4) helicopter the C130 transport aircraft (Hercules) and the Hawk 208 fighter aircraft.
"All these aircraft are undergoing upgrading and will continue to meet operational requirements and to ensure that the RMAF is capable of safeguarding the country's airspace," he added. — Bernama
