CYBERJAYA: The decision to block any website to users in the country is done based on the provided laws, said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
In a statement, today, the commission said in the case of Sarawak Report and Medium.com, the restrictions were automatically lifted when the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) report became public.
"For example, pornographic content, when deemed to have threatening or even nasty elements, will be blocked, based on complaints received from the public.
"These decisions are made to ensure public order," MCMC stated.
As such, MCMC stressed that restrictions on certain websites will be reviewed and if the reasons or criteria for blocking them are no longer applicable in line with the current situation, the restrictions will be lifted.
"In the case of live.undi.info's website, complaints received from the public among others include that the results or information displayed on the site were not accurate.
"However, after reviewing the published content, restrictions were withdrawn as the criteria used for the previous blocking process were not applicable in the current situation," the commission added.
