ISKANDAR PUTERI: The number of motorcycle thefts in the Iskandar Puteri district has risen with 39 cases recorded last month compared to 24 cases in the same period last year.
Iskandar Puteri district police chief ACP Noor Hashim Mohamad said that a special action team called 'Taskforce Lejang' had been set up to curb such activities from spreading.
"The implementation of the integrated operations which is conducted every day and the setting up of the special action team comprising 12 personnel, are among the measures taken by the Iskandar Puteri Police headquarters to combat such thefts," he told reporters after the IPD's monthly assembly here today.
According to him, based on the analysis performed, 60% of property crime theft involved motorcycles stolen at Iskandar Puteri.
"Two days ago we managed to arrest five teenagers who were believed to be involved in motorcycle thefts, namely around Kangkar Pulai and Gelang Patah areas and the case is now under police investigation," he said.
According to Noor Hashim, the public and the local community should cooperate in helping the police to combat theft or property crime, especially motorcycle thefts in residential areas.
In addition, motorists are reminded to be more vigilant and careful when leaving their vehicles at any place and not carelessly leave the vehicles unattended together with the keys. — Bernama
