Suspected poacher detained in Jekatih Selancar forest reserve

KUANTAN: The Pahang Wildlife and National Parks Department arrested a man believed be involved in poaching activities, in a raid at the Jekatih Selancar Forest Reserve in Rompin this morning.
Its director Ahmad Azhar Mohammed said following intelligence work, a six-man team from the Rompin Forest Rangers Office conducted a raid at 4.30am and arrested the 34-year-old suspect.
"Based on preliminary investigation, the man had gone into the forest with his two friends but they managed to escape. However the carcasses of two mouse deer were seized along with a homemade shotgun, several bullets, a global positioning system (GPS) device, machete and flashlight," he said when contacted here today.
The man has been remanded for four days from today, to assist investigations under Section 60 (1) (a) of the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 for hunting without a permit, he added. — Bernama
