Technician sentenced to jail, whipping for robbing Bangladeshi national

KUALA LUMPUR: A technician was sentenced to five years' jail and a stroke of the cane by the Sessions Court here today for committing gang-robbery on a Bangladeshi national.
Judge Shamsudin Abdullah handed down the sentence on Affandy Hardey, 35, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
Affandy was charged, with another person still at large, with robbing Mohammad Razon Miah, 28, of his handphone, valued at RM100, and RM165 in front of Mydin Sinar Kota, Jalan Silang here at 6.35am last Aug 13.
The charge, under Section 395 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years, and is liable to whipping, if found guilty.
Affandy, who was unrepresented, had initially pleaded not guilty, but changed his plea to guilty today when the case came up for mention.
He was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of arrest on Aug 13.
