KUCHING: The police today arrested three men and seized a stolen 4WD vehicle and two motorcycles, as well as a loaded rifle at Ladang Raso, Lundu, about 100km from here.
Sarawak CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar M. M. Sree Shunmugam said two of the men possessed military identification documents of a neighbouring country.
Elaborating on the arrests and seizure, he said in a statement that the police stopped two men on a motorcycle at about 3am and found that the machine had been reported stolen in Sekama, Kuching, last year.
"One of the men was carrying an SS1 rifle and a magazine with 15 rounds of ammunition," he said.
While the police were questioning the men, a 4WD vehicle came at high speed from Lundu and abruptly stopped, apparently after the occupants spotted the police, he said.
Dev Kumar said two men alighted from the vehicle and started to run into the nearby oil palm plantation, but the police caught one of them.
"The 4WD vehicle had been reported stolen yesterday and a motorcycle being transported had been reported stolen in Kota Samarahan earlier this year," he said.
Dev Kumar added that the three men were being held at the Lundu District Police headquarters for investigation under the Firearms Act 1960 and for immigration offences. — Bernama
