THE atmosphere was electric at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur last Thursday evening, as over a thousand Samsung and Park Bo Gum fans filled every inch of the centre court and the four levels of balconies that surrounds it, all hoping to catch a glance of the Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+, and the Korean superstar.
The stage was decked in black and purple. A huge display acted as the backdrop with a catwalk extended away from the stage to a smaller circular central area.
Although entry into the stage area was only opened at 5.15pm, some fans had gathered as early as 9am. Everyone waited in anticipation for the arrival of Park for the event to start.
All they needed to do was to listen for the tell-tale screams from fans at the balconies, who had a bird’s-eye view of the arrival of the actor and his entourage.
News of delays caused by traffic did not dampen the mood but only raised the anticipation of the crowd. With smartphones in hand, and some mounted on sticks, everyone poised for the launch to kick off.
All eyes and ears were on Samsung Malaysia Electronics president Kim Yoonsoo as he gave his opening speech and presented the philosophy behind the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, which is summed up in its motto: ‘The Camera. Reimagined’.
Local celebrities Jin and Reuben demonstrated two of the most-touted features of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+: Super Slow Mo and AR Emoji.
Super Slow-Mo lets the user stretch a 0.2-second moment into a six-second video turning what could be a mundane scene into a dramatic movie complete with background music to match.
AR Emoji, on the other hand, lets users create and puppeteer 3D avatars that are generated based on their likeness. The feature also automatically generates 12 preset emojis based on the avatar. This can then be used in any messenger program on the phone.
Throughout the event, host Serena C, as well as Jin and Reuben, shouted Park’s name to get cheers from the crowd.
When Serena Lim (winner of Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2016) was invited on stage to introduce a special guest, the crowd held their breath in anticipation.
Cheers filled mall as Park finally made his appearance on stage. “Apa khabar? Saya Park Bo Gum. Saya rindu pada mu.”
With those words, over 1,000 fans erupted into a deafening scream.
Three lucky fans had the chance to take a Super Slow-Mo video with the Korean star and received a hug from him.
The event concluded with a photography session featuring Park and members of the Samsung Malaysia Electronics management team, and a selfie with the crowd.
The Galaxy S9 and S9+ are now available in lilac purple, midnight black, and coral blue, but with the 256GB S9+ only in midnight black.
    The Galaxy S9 is only available with 64GB (RM3,299), while the Galaxy S9+ is available with 64GB (RM3,799), 128GB (RM3,999), and 256GB (RM4,399).
