KUALA LUMPUR: The water supply restoration period following the repair works on the critical equipment at the Sungai Selangor Phase 3 Water Treatment Plant (SSP3) has been extended after the surge vessel system at the plant burst today.
Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) Customer Relations and Communication Department head Abdul Raof Ahmad said in a statement today that the repair works was completed ahead of time at 5pm today.
He said the unexpected incident occurred as the plant was about to resume operations that resulted in serious injuries to staff on site, but no casualties was reported.
"Incidentally, the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) with Water Management Sdn Bhd and Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash) were present at the scene. The Splash had then informed SPAN and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) (regarding the incident)," he said.
Abdul Raof said following the incident, the water supply restoration has been extended from the original schedule as announced earlier.
Syabas would continue to send water tankers to the affected areas and the one stop service centre would be in operations for 24 hours until the water supply is fully restored, he said.
He also urged for customers' cooperation and understanding over the incident and assured all necessary actions were being taken to minimise the impact of water supply disruption. — Bernama
