Wild claims will not stop us: Hishammuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Baseless allegations against the Defence Ministry and Armed Forces will not deter them from serving the country.
Caretaker defence minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein (pix) said rather than entertaining the allegations, those serving in the ministry should just focus on discharging their duties in safeguarding the country from any threats.
He added that such allegations were seasonal, as the 14th general election draws closer.
"While I know they will not be affected, I hope those in the ministry will not entertain such allegations," he told a press conference after launching the ministry's pledge today.
Hishammuddin, who is also Special Functions minister, said although there were shortcomings in the ministry, such issues had been addressed.
He added there were parties which had made allegations but were unable to substantiate their claims.
"If they have proof, then by all means show it. As for us at the ministry, we are on the right track with nothing to hide."
Former cabinet minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, via an open letter on her Facebook page, had earlier commented on the privatisation of over 40,000ha of land belonging to the Defence Ministry and Armed Forces.
