PUTRAJAYA: Wisma Putra will not interfere in the authority's hunt for wanted businessman Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, and will only act on the advice of the police.
Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said the ministry would only facilitate where required, claiming the police were more qualified and proficient in handling such cases.
"The lead agency for this case is the police. And usually, our role is to facilitate whatever is being done by the lead agency.
"Fact of the matter is, I know the police will use whatever existing international protocol when it comes to security matters like this," he told reporters after attending the ministry's Hari Raya celebration attended by over 80 ambassadors and head of missions, here, today.
"We stand to be advised by the police. We will only facilitate," he added.
Jho Low, whose whereabout is unknown, is being sought by authorities to help in the investigation on state investment arm 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun had on Wednesday said the billionaire financier has left Macau for an unknown destination.
Many had speculated that Jho Low had since arrived in mainland China, but a Chinese official had today put to bed any such rumours by denying the reports.
