Ali Shaath begins duties as head of Gaza administration committee

Dr Ali Shaath starts as head of Gaza’s National Committee, tasked with rebuilding and governance under a UN-backed mandate and Trump’s peace plan.

ISTANBUL: Dr Ali Shaath has officially begun his duties as head of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG).

His first act was adopting and signing the committee’s mission statement, according to a report by Anadolu Ajansi.

“Today, as my first official act, I adopted and signed the NCAG Mission Statement, affirming our governing mandate and operating principles,” Shaath said in a statement.

He stated the NCAG is authorised by UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and President Donald J. Trump’s 20-Point Peace Plan.

Its task is to turn Gaza’s transitional period into a foundation for lasting Palestinian prosperity.

Shaath added the committee would operate under the guidance of a Board of Peace, chaired by President Trump.

It will also work with the support of the High Representative for Gaza.

“Our mission is to rebuild the Gaza Strip not just in infrastructure but also in spirit,” he said.

The NCAG aims to establish security and restore essential services including electricity, water, healthcare, and education.

It also seeks to promote governance rooted in peace, democracy, and justice.

Shaath said the committee would operate with the highest standards of integrity and transparency.

It will work to build a productive economy capable of replacing unemployment with opportunity.

“We embrace peace, through which we strive to secure the path to true Palestinian rights and self-determination,” he added.

The White House announced the committee members on Friday.

It described the group as a new “technocratic” committee to oversee Gaza’s transition of power.

This is part of President Trump’s 20-point plan to end Israel’s war on the territory.

Shaath is a former Palestinian deputy minister in the Palestinian Authority.

The White House described him as a widely respected technocratic leader.

He will oversee the restoration of public services and rebuild civil institutions in Gaza.

A Gaza Executive Board was also announced to support governance and services.

Its members include Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff.

Other members are Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The board also includes UAE Minister Reem Al-Hashimy and Qatari diplomat Ali Al-Thawadi.

Egypt’s intelligence chief Hassan Rashad is among the others named.

Witkoff announced the start of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire plan on Wednesday.

He said the focus will shift to demilitarisation, technocratic governance and reconstruction.
