Pelajar PhD rugi RM850,000 ditipu sindiket panggilan telefon palsu

GEORGE TOWN: Seorang pelajar Doktor Falsafah (PhD) di sebuah universiti di sini mengalami kerugian hampir 850,000 ringgit selepas menjadi mangsa sindiket penipuan panggilan telefon yang menyamar sebagai pihak berkuasa China.

Ketua Polis Pulau Pinang Datuk Azizee Ismail berkata lelaki warganegara China berusia 29 tahun itu membuat laporan di Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah Timur Laut pada Khamis lepas.

Mangsa mendakwa kejadian bermula selepas dia dihubungi seorang lelaki pada 10.30 pagi 4 Ogos lepas yang memperkenalkan diri sebagai pegawai Biro Keselamatan Awam Shanghai.

“Suspek mengatakan terdapat bungkusan mengandungi kad pengenalan, kad kredit dan buku cek menggunakan nama mangsa dihantar dari Malaysia ke China dan dokumen itu telah ditahan oleh pihak polis Shanghai.

Mangsa seterusnya disambungkan kepada seorang lagi individu yang mengaku sebagai pegawai Biro Keselamatan Awam Hon An memaklumkan bahawa akaun banknya turut disyaki terlibat dengan aktiviti penipuan dalam talian di China.

Suspek kemudian mengarahkan mangsa membuat pemindahan wang ke beberapa akaun bank dan e-dompet yang diberikan kononnya untuk tujuan siasatan.

Mangsa membuat 30 transaksi pindahaan wang ke 11 akaun bank tempatan dan tiga akaun mata wang kripto berjumlah keseluruhan 847,843 ringgit sepanjang tempoh 6 hingga 26 Ogos lepas.

Siasatan lanjut sedang dijalankan dan kes disiasat mengikut Seksyen 420 Kanun Keseksaan. – Bernama
