U Mobile completes transition to its own nationwide 5G network

KUALA LUMPUR: Following its exit from the wholesale access agreement with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), U Mobile has successfully completed the migration to its own nationwide ULTRA5G network.
This marks an important milestone that gives the company greater flexibility to deliver unparalleled customer experiences beyond connectivity through its superior network, differentiated products and services, and continued innovation.
Since commencing its 5G rollout in July 2025, U Mobile has achieved more than 85% Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA), earning recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records for the Fastest 5G Network Rollout in the country.
This achievement underscores the company’s ability to deliver a national 5G network well ahead of schedule with the latest technology and better customer experience validated by third parties such as Ookla and Opensignal.
Complementing its extensive outdoor coverage, U Mobile has also made significant investments in in-building coverage (IBC), enabling a more seamless 5G experience in locations where connectivity matters most, including transport hubs, commercial buildings, retail destinations, healthcare facilities, hotels, offices, government facilities and enterprise environments nationwide.
Today, U Mobile has deployed more than 190 IBC sites nationwide and remains on track to expand this to over 600 sites, further strengthening the country’s widest and deepest 5G experience across both outdoor and indoor environments.
Beyond network coverage, customers can also benefit from a growing portfolio of differentiated products and services that leverage the full capabilities of U Mobile’s next-generation network.
These include network prioritisation for eligible users during periods of congestion, reserved network capabilities that deliver enhanced performance, built-in security features, and future innovations enabled by U Mobile’s 5G standalone architecture.
Separately, U Mobile has also secured RM4.3 billion in syndicated financing from a consortium of leading local and international financial institutions to support the continued expansion and enhancement of its network, reinforcing its long-term commitment to delivering high-quality connectivity across Malaysia.
U Mobile CEO Wong Heang Tuck said: “The completion of our transition to our own nationwide ULTRA5G network marks a defining milestone for U Mobile.
“It gives us full control over our network, allowing us to innovate faster, elevate customer experience and introduce more differentiated products and services that meet the evolving needs of consumers and businesses be it indoors or outdoors.”
He added that over the past year, they have built one of the country’s widest and deepest 5G networks, complemented by a rapidly expanding in-building coverage footprint to deliver a more seamless indoor and outdoor experience.
