KUALA LUMPUR: Malton Bhd, one of Malaysia’s established property developers, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dongguan Benling Vehicle Technology Co Ltd, a leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, to explore the viability of establishing a local assembly plant and distribution ecosystem for electric motorcycles in Malaysia.
The collaboration marks a strategic expansion for Malton into the green mobility space, partnering with a veteran manufacturer to capture the rapid shift in Malaysia’s urban transportation landscape.
Benling Vehicle brings two decades of manufacturing expertise and currently operates major production bases in Tianjin, Wuxi, and Taizhou, China.
The company has already established an international footprint with branches in India, the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia, positioning Malaysia as the next logical step in its regional expansion.
Through this collaboration, Benling Vehicle aims to establish an assembly hub in Malaysia to serve as a gateway to the wider Asean electric two-wheeler market.
Malton, in turn, is exploring this venture as part of its ongoing diversification strategy into future-ready industries, particularly those aligned with national development policies in industrialisation, electrification, and sustainable transport.
Under the MoU, which has a nine-month validity period, Malton and Benling Vehicle will commence joint feasibility studies to assess the commercial viability of a local assembly facility.
This process will involve a comprehensive analysis of market demand in Malaysia and the wider Southeast Asian region, and the identification of strategic industrial sites suitable for assembling EV motorcycles for both domestic and export markets.
