Workshops engage students in STEAM hands-on learning

UTAR engages over 160 students in hands-on STEAM workshops, covering 3D modelling, fintech, AI and surgery to inspire future innovators.

UTAR also welcomed 40 Senior 3 students from Chung Hua High School Seremban who participated in STEM Workshop 3.0. Students explored three interactive stations covering diverse fields of study. AI for Good, conducted by LKC FES academic Dr Hau Lee Cheun, introduced students to artificial intelligence applications that support community and societal needs. At the Human Biomechanics Gait Analysis station, LKC FES academic Dr Low Jen Hahn guided students through motion-tracking concepts.

The third station was led by MBBS students from the UTAR Surgical Society, where participants learned about cardiac cycles, practised ECG interpretation, and tried hands-on minimally invasive surgical tool handling. This workshop marked the third consecutive year of collaboration with Chung Hua High School Seremban.

These workshops are a key part of UTAR’s commitment to community service, offering valuable learning opportunities to local youth and strengthening ties between the university and schools.

Beyond school-based workshops, UTAR also spearheads and participates in large-scale national platforms to promote STEAM education. UTAR was a key contributor to the Kuala Lumpur Engineering Science Fair (KLESF) 2025, held at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre from 14 to 16 November. With the theme Quantum Future: The Infinite Possibility, the fair drew thousands of visitors and reaffirmed its role as a leading STEM outreach platform in the region.

UTAR also organised the 19th Malaysia Festival of the Mind (MFotM) in November at Pay Fong Middle School, Melaka. Under the theme Innovate with Intellect: The Fusion of Mind and STEM, the festival highlighted how mental literacy and STEM education combine to nurture future-ready innovators, attracting students, educators, and the public through talks, exhibitions, and interactive challenges.

Through these sustained efforts—from local workshops to national fairs—UTAR continues to inspire future innovators, strengthen its educational leadership, and underscore the transformative power of STEAM in shaping young minds and communities.
