ASEAN AI Safety Network regional headquarters will be established in Kuala Lumpur early next year to coordinate regional AI safety programmes.
KUALA LUMPUR: The regional headquarters of the ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Safety Network will be established here early next year.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced that the ASEAN AI Safe Secretariat will coordinate programmes and activities under this initiative.
He stated that this network platform brings together all ASEAN member states to foster cooperation in developing a safe AI ecosystem.
“We need to explore how we can advance discussions toward establishing a network that ensures the safe and responsible use of AI across the ASEAN region,” he said.
Gobind emphasised the importance of continued collaboration and dialogue among ASEAN nations.
He made these remarks after officiating the Powering the Intelligent Age summit in Kuala Lumpur.
The summit was organised by the Digital Ministry through the Malaysian Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
This event was held in collaboration with the World Economic Forum to strengthen cooperation in artificial intelligence and digitalisation.
More than 400 delegates from 14 countries attended the summit.
Participants included senior policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and startup founders.
The Digital Ministry clarified that ASEAN AI Safe serves as a regional mechanism to support existing ASEAN digital bodies.
This initiative aims to strengthen regional capacity and foster cooperation in AI safety.
It will promote research and innovation in AI safety across Southeast Asia.
ASEAN AI Safe will be guided by existing regional frameworks including the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025.
Other guiding frameworks include the Guidelines on AI Governance and Ethics and the ASEAN Responsible AI Roadmap.
The network also aligns with upcoming frameworks such as the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2030.
It supports the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement in building secure AI systems. – Bernama
