KUALA LUMPUR: China has expressed its willingness to strengthen development strategy alignment with all parties while upholding openness and cooperation.
Premier Li Qiang stated this approach would jointly create a new chapter of development and success in East Asia.
He noted East Asia’s long-standing commitment to openness and cooperation has enabled regional countries to transcend social system differences.
This approach has allowed nations to achieve complementarity through collaboration while avoiding economic issues being politicised or securitised.
Speaking at the 28th ASEAN+3 Summit, Li observed that East Asian countries are now at different development stages compared to the past.
He emphasised that reviewing and learning from history can offer valuable insights and inspiration for future development.
“For decades, it is because we have upheld openness and cooperation that we have been able to transcend differences in social systems, leverage our respective strengths and economic patterns, and achieve mutual complementarity among the nations,” said Li.
“It is also because of openness and cooperation that we have avoided economic issues being politicised or securitised, instead managing and resolving differences through communication, dialogue and coordination, thereby minimising disruptions to economic development,” he added.
The ASEAN+3 Summit was held alongside the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur.
The summit was co-chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Premier Li Qiang, Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu, and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.
The Chinese Premier further emphasised that openness and cooperation facilitate steady progress in regional connectivity.
He stated this approach further invigorates market dynamics while creating shared development opportunities for all nations.
“Openness and cooperation are a valuable shared experience gained through years of practice and exploration,” Li remarked.
“We should cherish it, remain steadfast in our commitment, and ensure that openness and cooperation continue to serve as a defining strength of East Asia’s economy,” he concluded.
Li underscored that ASEAN’s cooperation with China, Japan, and South Korea has maintained positive momentum over the past year.
He highlighted this cooperation demonstrates the resilience and vitality of the East Asian economy despite global challenges. – Bernama
