KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia stands ready to participate in a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Gaza alongside like-minded nations and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation members.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim conveyed this commitment to UN Secretary-General António Guterres during their bilateral meeting at the 47th ASEAN Summit.

Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s firm support for the Palestinian struggle and welcomed the UN’s consistent position on the Gaza conflict.

He also expressed appreciation for the International Court of Justice ruling that Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid violates international law.

The meeting further aimed to strengthen Malaysia’s cooperation with the UN under the ASEAN-UN framework.

Anwar confirmed Malaysia’s full support for the UN reform agenda including the Pact for the Future and UN80 Initiative.

He emphasised Malaysia’s commitment to advancing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

This commitment will be implemented through the Complementarities Initiative 2.0 programme.

During their 20-minute discussion, both leaders addressed Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair in facilitating Thailand-Cambodia peace negotiations.

They also discussed advancing inclusive dialogue efforts in Myanmar to address the ongoing crisis.

The conversation covered global climate agenda strengthening including Malaysia’s Nationally Determined Contributions 3.0 submission.

This submission precedes the 30th Conference of the Parties climate summit scheduled in Brazil.

Anwar affirmed that Malaysia will continue close collaboration with the United Nations to champion global peace and sustainable development.

Guterres arrived in Malaysia early Sunday morning to participate in the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.

These meetings are conducted under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 with the theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’. – Bernama
