KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed heartfelt appreciation for the collective effort that ensured the success of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.
Senior Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Tunku Nashrul Abaidah conveyed the Prime Minister’s gratitude during a daily briefing by the Prime Minister’s Office.
He stated that the Prime Minister extended his deepest gratitude to all government agencies, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, volunteers and media members for their unwavering commitment.
The Prime Minister also conveyed sincere appreciation to all Malaysians for their patience and support throughout the entire diplomatic process.
On behalf of the Prime Minister, Tunku Nashrul sought forgiveness for any shortcomings during Malaysia’s tenure as ASEAN Chair in 2025.
He described the 47th ASEAN Summit as among the largest and most high-profile gatherings of ASEAN leaders to date.
The summit was attended by all ASEAN Heads of State, nine Dialogue Partners and four Guest Countries of the Chair.
Tunku Nashrul added that the summit carved a place in history for Malaysia by showcasing the nation’s credibility and diplomatic strength.
Malaysia hosted the summit under the theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’ during its ASEAN Chairmanship.
Since ASEAN’s establishment in 1967, Malaysia has assumed the chairmanship five times in 1977, 1997, 2005, 2015 and now 2025.
Each chairmanship has contributed to strengthening the regional bloc’s foundation of cooperation and unity.
Yesterday’s symbolic handover of the ASEAN Chairmanship to the Philippines marked a smooth transition of leadership.
