Selangor assembly extends sitting hours for more debate time

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting from November 14 to 27 will run longer than usual, extending beyond the typical 4.30 pm adjournment time.

Selangor State Assembly Speaker Lau Weng San said the decision was made to allow more time for assemblymen to debate and raise issues affecting the people.

He specifically noted that the Selangor Budget 2026 would also be tabled during this extended session.

“I plan to extend the duration of the debate slightly so that all assemblymen will have enough time to express their views and discuss important issues for the benefit of the people,” Lau told reporters during an engagement session with the media.

“This time it will be longer, beyond 4.30 pm.

Many people-related issues will be raised and debated, so we expect the session to go on for a longer period.”
Lau identified several topics expected to draw significant attention during the debates.

These included flooding, public transport, investment, Visit Selangor Year 2025, the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire, and the construction of the Shah Alam Sports Complex.

The Selangor assembly sitting will proceed as scheduled despite coinciding with the Sabah state election.

Lau confirmed there was no need to amend the sitting dates as notices had already been issued to assemblymen.

He added that the dates had also received the consent of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
“The Selangor assembly sitting will follow a tight schedule to ensure all matters, including the tabling and approval of the Selangor Budget 2026, can be completed and gazetted within the first week of December,” he said.

The assembly proceedings will commence with the tabling of the Selangor Budget 2026 by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari on November 14.

Subsequent sessions are scheduled from November 17 to 21 and November 24 to 27. – Bernama
