A BANK customer was left astonished after more than RM1 billion was credited to his account in what the bank later confirmed was a mistaken transaction.

The customer, Wan Mohd Fairuz, shared the incident on Threads under the handle @wmfmza, saying RM1,000,315,879 appeared in his account on Oct 14 at about 10.36am.

A screenshot accompanying his post showed the transaction labelled “Bank adjustment” under “Rewards – Promotion/Campaign”, with the description “Cash Reward – Merdeka / Malaysia Day 2026 Campaign (Cycle 6)”.

Fairuz said he had neither participated in any promotion nor made any purchase that could account for the unexpected credit.

In the comments section, he said he checked his banking application at about 11am and contacted the bank after noticing the unusually large sum.

The post quickly attracted attention, with social media users joking about the prospect of becoming a billionaire overnight.

Some suggested that the money had been credited by mistake, while others jokingly asked Fairuz for loans.

Other users quipped that such a bank statement would be useful when dealing with people who had previously looked down on them.

In a subsequent post, Fairuz confirmed that the issue had been resolved and the bank had removed the erroneous credit from his account.

He added that the bank had offered him a reward for bringing the mistake to its attention, although the details had yet to be confirmed.

Fairuz said he was awaiting an email from the bank with further information and hoped the gesture would be worthwhile.
