A Malaysian netizen asked if a degree holder with one year of work experience still needs to prove their worth
IN a post on Threads, a Malaysian woman shared that her younger sibling went for a job interview and asked for a salary of RM3,00.
However, the Human Resources interviewer reportedly dismissed the request with a laugh, saying that in their company, fresh graduates would only be reviewed based on their performance after the probation period.
According to the interviewer, “freshies” are paid around RM2,500. The woman then post a questione if a degree holders with one year of work experience still need to prove their worth. “When did ‘freshie’ become an excuse to lowball qualified people?” the post read.
Some netizens suggested that the sibling should look for another company.
One man commented that if you were the owner of a large company, would you hire a degree holder with only one year of experience for RM3,300? He added that experience is the most important factor, but still advised the sibling to find an employer that knows their value.
Another netizen questioned whether someone with one year of experience should still be considered a “freshie,” while others argued that fresh graduates should earn between RM3,500 and RM4,000.
One user also pointed out that in Singapore, a fresh graduate from a recognised university earns around S$4,000 to S$4,400.
Do you think a graduate with one year experiences should be paid RM2,500 or more? So, what is your opinion?
