Metro Point Kajang Robbery: Three shops hit, security questioned

A lone robber on a bicycle stole cash drawers from three Kajang Metro Point outlets, raising security concerns

A brazen robbery at Metropoint Kajang shopping mall has left shop owners and the public questioning security measures after three retail outlets were targeted in a single incident.

According to aThreads post by Nurul Ain circulating on social media, the llao llao outlet at the Kajang shopping complex was among the businesses hit by the robbery. Two other establishments—a mee tarik (pulled noodle) restaurant and a J&T Express outlet—were also targeted during the same incident.

Lone Cyclist Behind Multiple Thefts

In an update shared online, it was revealed that CCTV footage showed the robbery was carried out by a single individual who arrived on a bicycle. The suspect managed to make off with three cash register drawers from the different shops.

“The person who robbed the shops came on a bicycle. He worked alone. Based on CCTV footage, how did he manage to carry three cash drawers?” one social media user questioned, expressing disbelief at how the theft was executed.

It is learnt that the robbery had occurred around midnight when the shopping centre was closed.

Security Concerns Raised

The incident has sparked intense criticism of security arrangements at the shopping complex, with numerous people voicing frustration over what they perceive as inadequate protection.

Social media users were quick to point out that this wasn’t the first security lapse at the location, referencing a previous stabbing incident where security personnel were also notably absent.

“WHERE IS SECURITY? Strange. Even during the stabbing case, security was nowhere to be seen,” one comment read.

Another user described the security situation bluntly: “Security here is the type that walks around standing everywhere but doesn’t know how to do their job.”

Foreign Security Guards Under Fire

Several commenters specifically criticized the employment of foreign nationals as security personnel, suggesting they may be ineffective in crisis situations.

“Security (guards) from Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan—where got dare? Scared to die, they’ll run first,” one user claimed.

Another elaborated: “If the security is a foreigner, they’re busy wearing earbuds chatting on the phone or doing video calls 24/7. They don’t understand their function as ‘Security Guards’ at all—totally unable to guard security. What they know is go to work, sit down, then go home. Half of security is like that… sometimes they don’t even understand Malay.”

Location Described as “Quiet”

Some social media users also commented on the general atmosphere of Metropoint Kajang and the surrounding area.

“Metropoint? That place is quite deserted,” one person noted, with another adding, “Not just there. The whole of Kajang town is deserted.”

The incident has raised serious questions about security protocols at shopping complexes and the vetting and training of security personnel, particularly in light of the suspect’s ability to target multiple outlets and escape with stolen goods while apparently going undetected.

As of press time, the Kajang police have yet to release an official statement regarding the robbery or any arrests made in connection with the case.
