“Now, I just drive 5 minutes to the nearest KTM station after dropping my kid at school, then continue my journey by KTM + MRT. It only costs about RM170 per month.”
A Malaysian woman has gone viral after sharing how she slashed her commuting costs by more than RM300 a month just by switching from driving to public transport.
In a Threads post, Nabila Lokman explained that she used to drive to her office in KL and her transportion expenses would accumulate to over RM500 in a month.
Now, her daily commute looks very different. After dropping her child off at school, Nabila drives just five minutes to the nearest KTM station.
From there, she takes the KTM and MRT straight to her office. Her new monthly transport cost?
Only RM170.

The best part? She adds that she no longer stresses about traffic jams and can now use the time to scroll on her phone.
“Time-wise? Almost the same. Plus, I don’t have to stress about traffic jams—I can just scroll on my phone.”
Nabila’s also highlighted that extending MRT and KTM lines to satellite towns and cities would be very helpful to Malaysians.
“Adding more lanes to highways isn’t the solution. Public transport is. Extending MRT lines to satellite cities would probably help a lot.”
The post struck a chord with netizens:

So I saved on season parking (RM250), I only pay RM4.50 a day now. A lot of fuel saved. No sudden increase in anger due to idiots on the road. RM0 to toll payment so far, been using EKVE a lot for the past few months. Good experience so far with MRT. I like.”
