A Malaysian breakfast turned exotic when a tiny fried seahorse was found in nasi lemak with anchovies
A regular nasi lemak for breakfast turned out to an exotic one since a tiny fried seahorse made a guest appearance along with the fried dried anchovies.
Daniel Hasri shared the picture of the small seahorse he found in his nasi lemak, saying it is rare.
A user commented that he is lucky to taste the seahorse for free because it is as expensive as RM645 for a small packet.
Another user joked that he found Patrick from SpongeBob SquarePants — a small fried starfish in his anchovies fry.
Using the picture, someone pranked her father saying that she had a seahorse nasi lemak today and the father asked her back if it was ‘sembelih’ (slaughtered) in halal way, taking it seriously.
A football fan also joked saying that is “Nasi Newcastle” as the English football club’s logo has two seahorses.
However, some users said the aqua creature has a declining population and probably the fishermen caught them by mistake.
Fatihah, who claimed to have researched on seahorses said its population had reduced to 67% at Johor waters, yet it is not made into the extinct creature category yet.
“Maybe the fisherman catching the anchovies didn’t even notice the seahorse in the net. But if one does get caught, please release it back, guys,” she noted.
