M’sian netizens knee-jerked after seller charges RM26.50 for 150 grams of ‘Lutut Ayam Crispy’

“That’s just chicken knees”: Malaysian netizens react to RM26.50 ‘Lutut Ayam Crispy’.

MALAYSIAN netizens were left amused and confused after a food seller charged RM26.50 for 150 grams of ‘lutut ayam crispy’.

According to the menu, the seller priced 150 grams of ‘lutut ayam’, or chicken knee soft bones, at RM26.50, with the amount inclusive of Sales and Service Tax (SST).

The pricing, however, did not sit well with many netizens, who took to the comments section to express their disbelief.

One user, kny_sunset__catcher, said:
“Whatever it is, I’m definitely not your target market. I won’t pay that amount for chicken knees.”

Another netizen, muhdazmiza, commented that the seller would likely continue to attract customers despite the backlash, noting that some people were driven more by hype than value.

“People will still crowd her stall. People are willing to spend a nonsense amount for a nonsense vibe. Afraid of missing out (FOMO).”

Echoing the sentiment, fairry.__ remarked:
“Her target market isn’t rich or capable people — it’s people who are FOMO.”

Others questioned the value of the dish, particularly in the current economic climate. serra_oman wrote:

“From the start when this chicken knee trend appeared, I was already shocked by the price — not because I can’t afford it, but because I feel it’s not worth it. You can buy rice with a whole gepuk chicken leg for around RM12 including a drink. This is just a snack priced higher than a whole chicken. Money isn’t easy to earn these days, even if you can afford it, look for something more worthwhile.”
