M’sia’s NG MERS999 wins global social PPP award in Istanbul

Malaysia’s NG MERS999 emergency response project wins global Social PPP Project of the Year award at the Istanbul PPP Week Awards

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Next Generation Malaysian Emergency Response Services 999 (NG MERS999) project has received international recognition.

It was named the global winner in the Social PPP Project of the Year category at the 10th Istanbul PPP Week Awards in Istanbul, Turkey.

The prestigious award highlights the successful implementation of a high-impact social project through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

It specifically strengthens the national emergency response system by integrating communication technology and coordinating rescue agencies.

Secretary of the Control and Compliance Division at the Ministry of Communications Kamarudin Abdul Rani said the award reflects close government-private sector cooperation.

“This global recognition illustrates the close cooperation between the government and the private sector in providing quality, internationally-standard emergency services,” he told Bernama.

The project is coordinated by the Public-Private Partnership Unit (UKAS) under the Prime Minister’s Department.

The Ministry of Communications is the project owner, with Telekom Malaysia (TM) as the concession holder.

The award ceremony was held at Le Méridien Istanbul Etiler. The event gathered investors, financial institutions, advisors, and policymakers from Europe, West Asia, Asia, and Africa to discuss sustainable infrastructure development via PPP approaches.

The NG MERS999 implementation enhances the 999 emergency call system with next-generation technology.

This aims to accelerate response times, strengthen coordination between security agencies, and ensure more efficient public assistance.

This success also marks a historic first for Malaysia. It is the country’s first PPP project to be nominated and win this award since the Istanbul PPP Week Awards began a decade ago.

The win strengthens Malaysia’s international reputation in delivering socially impactful infrastructure projects.
