Scammers use silent calls from landlines to trick victims; police urge caution and recommend Truecaller for protection
SILENT call scams have become the latest trend among fraudsters, who are refining their tactics to make them more convincing for victims.
A Threads user shared that she has been receiving daily calls from a landline number, with the caller remaining completely silent.
“Why call every day? Don’t they get tired?” she posted. Several other netizens reported receiving similar calls using the same “silent” technique.
Ayesha suggested that iPhone users adjust their phone settings to silence unknown callers to avoid such spam.
However, the original poster noted that this could result in missing important calls in the future.
Nredya also warned against silencing unknown numbers, as it could prevent users from receiving emergency calls from hospitals or police.
Other netizens recommended using the Truecaller app, which can identify unknown numbers, block spam calls and messages, and protect users from fraud.
Call log screenshots shared online revealed that scammers often spam through different landline numbers that vary only in the last four digits.
Previously, police have cautioned the public about such scam call methods, which may be used in voice exploitation schemes.
