Malaysia’s task force has revived 1,399 private housing projects worth RM133.78 billion, reducing abandoned projects and aiming for zero by 2030.

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 1,399 private housing projects have been successfully revived since the establishment of the Task Force for Sick and Abandoned Private Housing Projects (TFST) in 2023.

These projects comprise 167,423 units with a Gross Development Value of RM133.78 billion.

Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said 34 abandoned housing projects were also successfully revived.

She stated these projects were revived either through physical completion or by resolving issues with buyers.

“As of Dec 31 last year, 161 private housing projects were classified as ‘delayed’, 349 as ‘sick’, and 99 as ‘abandoned’ nationwide,” she said in a statement.

She added that all problematic projects remain under continuous monitoring and targeted intervention through the TFST platform.

Aiman noted the number of abandoned projects fell from 102 to 99 in a positive development.

She said this reflects the effectiveness of close collaboration between TFST and stakeholders in reviving housing projects.

She added that TFST will continue to serve as the main platform to address problematic private housing projects.

The task force offers practical and effective solutions with real impact for buyers and the public.

“This also aligns with the ministry’s commitment to gradually reduce the number of problematic projects,” she said.

The ministry aims to achieve zero abandoned housing projects by 2030. – Bernama
