Lecturer angered after a student’s AI-generated assignment changed her name to a vulgar phrase
WHILE the existence of artificial intelligence (AI) has made our lives easier, it is never a good idea to rely on it too heavily.
These days, many educators have expressed concerns that the overreliance on AI in academic work is causing a decline in the quality of student assignments — and one viral post recently highlighted the issue.
Posted on Threads, a lecturer shared how her student’s excessive dependence on AI resulted in a disrespectful blunder after submitting a group assignment.

According to a screenshot attached to the post, the student submitted the group assignment with the lecturer’s name not only misspelled but rendered in a vulgar manner.
The name displayed turned out to be “Site Aisyah B**** Meeting”.
“Ah, it’s that time of the year again, where the student uploads the whole assignment to AI and doesn’t double-check. For context, my dad’s name is Jumpaan,” she wrote in the post, later adding in the comments that she felt disrespected and disappointed.
The lecturer later clarified that she had reached out to the student and, fortunately, he showed remorse for the offensive mistake. He ultimately earned a passing grade of D.
She also claimed that the student said his teammates had not cooperated on the group assignment, forcing him to complete the work at the last minute, which led to the serious error.
Netizens were just as shocked by the blunder as the lecturer, with many criticising the blatant oversight and lack of effort in reviewing the assignment before submission.
“Reject the paper straight away. This is academic fraud,” one user commented.
“This is insane. Some of us who also use AI still have to double-check the information since there could be a lot of errors,” another user pointed out.
