A tiger escaped its enclosure during a circus performance in Russia, causing panic among spectators before being safely recaptured without injuries
A scene of sheer panic unfolded at a Russian circus after a tiger managed to break free from its enclosure, sending terrified spectators scrambling for safety.
Footage of the harrowing encounter has since gone viral, capturing the moment the predator roamed within metres of the startled audience.
The incident occurred during a show at the Dovgaluk Circus in Rostov-on-Don.
In videos shared across social media, performers are seen conducting an act with three tigers inside a ring protected by safety netting.
The atmosphere transformed from entertainment to horror when the net suddenly collapsed, startling the big cats.
It was reported that one of the tigers seized the opportunity to leap from the arena, charging directly into the seating area.
Screams of terror echoed through the venue as parents were seen clutching their children, trying to distance themselves from the animal as it prowled through the stands.
Despite the chaos, organisers urged the crowd to remain stationary and calm to avoid further agitating the predator.
Circus director Nikolai Dovgaluk reportedly later confirmed that the situation was brought under control without any injuries or “untoward incidents.”
He explained that a trainer was able to successfully collar the tiger and lead it back to its cage.
“It is not to say there was absolutely no threat to the audience, but these are tame tigers, in the sense that they are trained like domestic animals,” Dovgaluk added, defending the circus’s safety record.
