A viral video shows Malaysian Civil Defence Force officers rescuing a Silvery lutong monkey in Tanjung Bungah, earning praise for their patience and humane handling
A video documenting four Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) officers attempting to rescue a Silvery lutong monkey in Tanjung Bungah has gone viral, garnering over 7.5 million views on TikTok.
The footage, shared on APM’s official Facebook page and by TikTok user Pijai Eicha, captures a frantic scene as officers in blue uniforms and red safety helmets give chase to the agile primate through a building.
The rescue attempt was far from straightforward. The monkey moved with such speed and unpredictability that it was difficult for the officers—and the cameraman—to keep pace.
At one point, the cameraman was seen falling over in the excitement, though he quickly recovered to continue filming the “real-life action scene.”
Amidst the chaos, a pair of blue trousers was spotted lying on the floor—a humorous detail that left viewers wondering to whom they belonged.
Despite the physical struggle and the high-speed sprint of the animal, the APM team remained determined. Eventually, one officer managed to secure the monkey by its tail.
What resonated most with netizens was the officers’ transition from pursuit to gentleness. Once the monkey was caught, instead of using force, the officers were seen stroking its dark fur and patting its head to calm it down.
This compassionate handling of the wild animal—also known as the Silvery Langur or Dusky Leaf Monkey—earned widespread praise. These primates, characterised by their long tails and distinct white patches around the eyes, are native to the rainforests of Peninsular Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand.
The viral video has been hailed as a testament to the APM’s patience and professionalism. Netizens commended the team not only for their successful rescue but also for their humane treatment of wildlife.
Following the incident, the APM confirmed that the monkey was unharmed and has since been released back into its natural habitat. The cameraman also received accolades for capturing the high-energy footage under such challenging and humorous conditions.
