Zunar signs fan’s summon letter in funny autograph moment

Cartoonist Zunar shares a hilarious story of a cab driver who asked for his autograph on a traffic summons slip

STARSTRUCK moments often happen when we least expect them — and one cab driver’s encounter with Malaysia’s renowned political cartoonist Zulkiflee Anwar Haque, better known as Zunar, proved just that.

Zunar shared on Threads that a cab driver named Viknash recognised him during a ride and asked if he was indeed the famous cartoonist.

When Zunar confirmed, the excited fan requested an autograph.

“He asked if he could get an autograph, and I said of course he could. But then he said he didn’t have any paper,” Zunar wrote.

“After searching around, he found a summons letter. ‘This will do,’ he said.”

Zunar obliged and signed the summons slip, later wishing Viknash continued success.

The cartoonist also shared a photo of the autographed letter, which quickly caught the public’s attention online.

One commenter, Malek, joked that the summons should be framed, while others expressed surprise and amusement at the 63-year-old artist’s lighthearted post.

Some fans even urged him to continue producing more political cartoons, noting that there’s plenty of current material for his trademark satire.

Known for his bold and critical works, Zunar has long been recognised as one of Malaysia’s most outspoken political cartoonists.

In July, he released his 230-page biography Melukis Dengan Hati: Biografi Zunar, chronicling his career, struggles, and passion for art and free expression.
