PETALING JAYA: The management of a well-known rotating restaurant in the KL Tower has closed it down following a vacate order issued by the High Court in Kuala Lumpur.

According to a document obtained by FMT, Atmosphere 360 has been ordered by the High Court to leave their rented flat in KL Tower by January 4, 2024.

Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd and its current owner, Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd, requested the injunction against Asian Kitchen (M) Sdn Bhd, the restaurant’s owner.

When reached, Asian Kitchen CEO Ringo Kaw confirmed the closure and expressed amazement upon getting the notification.

Before Hydropshoppe took over administration of KL Tower, the previous management orally offered the restaurant a three-year extension of its tenancy, according to Kaw.

However, he said that the new owners only permitted the restaurant to stay open until the end of the year.

“We have also taken the matter to court because the takeover (of KL Tower by Hydroshoppe) is being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission,“ he told reporters.

Hydroshoppe director Abdul Hamid Shaikh Abdul Razak Shaikh was indicted in April for allegedly giving former communications and multimedia minister Annuar Musa a bribe of RM500,000 per year for 15 years to hasten the acquisition of the KL Tower concession.

Asian Kitchen then sued Menara KL and Hydroshoppe, requesting that the transfer of shares and ownership from the KL Tower’s former owner, Telekom Malaysia Bhd, to Hydroshoppe be declared null and unlawful.

They said the share transfer was “tainted with issues of illegality,“ referring to Hamid’s corruption indictment.

Hydroshoppe subsequently filed a motion for summary judgment against the restaurant, requesting that the tenancy arrangement between the restaurant and Menara KL be declared to have ended on June 30.

They also demanded that Atmosphere 360 leave the restaurant unit.

The court found in favor of Menara KL and Hydroshoppe, directing them to carry out the summary judgment by requesting that Atmosphere 360 vacate the unit.
