KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul will attend the 27th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in Kampala, Uganda from tomorrow until Jan 6.
According to a statement released by the Malaysian Parliament today, Wan Junaidi is scheduled to present a topic related to the Environment, Climate Change and The Role of Parliament, while Johari on Diverse and Inclusive Parliaments: Youth and Gender Sensitivity on Jan 4.
“The delegation is also scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, Anita Annet Among, who is the host of the conference, on Jan 3, and attend the opening ceremony to be officiated by the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Jan 4,” the statement read.
It also said that the delegation will attend the Regional Meeting Malaysia and Singapore, bilateral meetings with other delegations and workshop sessions organised during the conference.
A total of 40 delegations representing Parliaments from 33 countries, including Malaysia, are expected to attend this year’s CSPOC.
Since its inception in 1969, the conference has been held biennially with the aim of maintaining, fostering and encouraging impartiality and fairness on the part of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments throughout the Commonwealth countries.
The Malaysian delegation will be accompanied by Dewan Negara secretary Muhd Sujairi Abdullah, Dewan Rakyat secretary Dr Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin and senior officials.
