The US approves a $2.3 billion sale of P-8A patrol aircraft and torpedoes to Singapore, aiming to boost its maritime deterrence and regional security.
WASHINGTON: The United States has approved a potential $2.3 billion sale of military equipment to Singapore.
The package includes P-8A maritime patrol aircraft, torpedoes and related support systems.
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said the sale will improve Singapore’s capability to meet current and future threats.
It stated the deal provides “a credible maritime force capable of deterring adversaries.”
DSCA added the sale will enhance US foreign policy and national security objectives.
It aims to improve the security of a strategic partner key to stability in Asia.
The State Department has approved the possible sale to Singapore.
The DSCA has notified the US Congress, which must still authorise the transaction.
