Cabinet reshuffle is PM’s sole prerogative, says Zahid

Deputy PM Ahmad Zahid confirms Cabinet reshuffles are PM’s sole authority, not discussed in Cabinet meetings, while special meeting focuses on Sabah revenue

PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has confirmed that Cabinet reshuffles are the sole prerogative of the Prime Minister.

The Rural and Regional Development Minister stated that such matters have never been discussed in Cabinet meetings.

“The Prime Minister has full authority to restructure the Cabinet or appoint anyone as a member,” he told reporters after his ministry’s monthly assembly.

He was responding to questions about whether a special Cabinet meeting would address reshuffle matters.

Zahid confirmed that Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick tendered his resignation on Monday morning.

Meanwhile, the special meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will focus on Sabah’s 40% revenue entitlement issue.

Anwar said yesterday the government would consider the Attorney-General’s advice before deciding whether to appeal the High Court’s ruling on Sabah’s revenue share. – Bernama
