The National Sports Council says there is plenty of time to prepare for the 2026 LTdL, with funding approval from the Cabinet pending.

THE National Sports Council (MSN) has emphasised there is still sufficient time to prepare for organising the 2026 Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL).

MSN Director-General Jefri Ngadirin (pix) said the current main focus is ensuring the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (PKBM) has a competitive team ready for the home race.

“Don’t worry, we still have plenty of time,” he told reporters at the MSN today.

He noted that organisation is not a major issue, as Malaysia has previously been recognised as the best organiser.

“The issue now is the approval of funding from the government,” Jefri added.

He said MSN will submit an application to the Cabinet soon for the 2026 edition and beyond.

“Wait another two to three weeks for the Cabinet’s decision.”

The government allocated RM12 million for the LTdL across 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Collaboration between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Tourism as main sponsor has been in place since 2023.

Confirmation of the 2026 organiser will only be known after the Cabinet’s decision.

MSN began handling the LTdL organisation in 2023, with the 2025 edition being the final year of its current contract.

In a separate development, MSN said planning for new badminton coaches will be detailed soon.

A workshop will be held on Jan 22 and 23, followed by a Working Committee meeting in early February.

“So far, we have heard that there may be four to six new coaches,” Jefri said.

Their placements for the development squad, podium squad or Road to Gold programme will be decided during the workshop.

The associated costs will depend on MSN’s financial capacity. – Bernama
