Cikgu E succumbs to cancer after brave battle

Former teacher Nassry Mardee Ismail, known as Cikgu E, succumbs to three types of cancer at age 45, leaving behind final message of gratitude

IPOH: Former teacher Nassry Mardee Ismail, 45, or more affectionately known as Cikgu E, who had been battling three types of cancer — kidney, glandular and lung cancer – since March 2024, passed away today at 4.35 pm.

His son, Nassrul Hakeem, announced the sad news on his father’s Facebook account, Nassry Mardee Ismail IV.

Previously, the late Cikgu E had uploaded an update, which may have been his last post on Facebook, stating that his breathing had recently become irregular, with shortness of breath and tightness in his chest.

“If, throughout my life’s journey, there have been any offensive words, hurtful writings, or inappropriate actions, whether intentional or unintentional, I ask for forgiveness for all of them,” according to the note.

The late teacher managed to upload a note stating that acceptance (redha) does not mean giving up hope, but accepting all of God’s decrees with a heart that is confident that every test is a form of His love.

Cikgu E requested that after his death, his friends and family not mourn his passing, but instead simply send prayers and recite the Al-Fatihah, and continue living with love and kindness.

“Thank you to everyone who has ever been in my life, as friends, siblings, teachers, or simply companions in this virtual space. May Allah multiply your every good deed in His sight,” according to the note.

On Nov 2, Bernama reported that despite being informed that only 30 per cent of his airways were still functioning, Cikgu E refused to give up his fight against the stage four lung cancer.

The father of three daughters and two sons, aged between eight and 19, previously said he could only spend 24 hours sitting upright and relied on oxygen support.
