Kelantan will table a new Islamic Family Law Enactment Bill next Tuesday to replace the 2002 legislation with updated penalties and new offences.
KOTA BHARU: Kelantan will table a new Islamic Family Law Enactment Bill next Tuesday to replace existing legislation.
The bill will be presented during the third session of the 2025 State Legislative Assembly beginning tomorrow.
Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said the enactment last amended in 2002 needs updating to reflect current developments.
He stated the new enactment will mainly increase penalty limits to reflect current monetary values.
It will also introduce several new offences related to Islamic family matters particularly involving marriage.
“This Bill represents a complete renewal of the Islamic Family Law Enactment 2002,” he told a press conference at the Kota Darulnaim Complex.
The bill will be tabled by State Islamic Development Committee chairman Mohd Asri Mat Daud.
Debates will follow the tabling during the five-day assembly session.
The session begins with Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud tabling the state budget tomorrow. – Bernama
