LRT3 Shah Alam line praised by first-day riders

Commuters praise LRT3 Shah Alam line for comfort and shorter travel times, while suggesting Braille signs and women-only coaches.

SHAH ALAM: The first day of operations of the Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) Shah Alam Line received positive feedback from users, who described the new route as comfortable, accessible and helpful in reducing travel time.

At the same time, users also gave suggestions for improvement, including facilities for persons with disabilities (PwDs) and measures to enhance passenger comfort, to ensure the service continues to improve over time.

For visually impaired commuter Razlan Ibrahim, 40, his journey on the LRT3 from Bandar Utama to Glenmarie 2 station today gave a positive impression of efforts to provide a more inclusive public transport system.

However, he suggested that the provision of Braille signage at key locations such as PwD toilets, male and female surau, and lifts be enhanced to help visually impaired users access directional information more clearly.

Razlan, who took the opportunity to try out facilities at several stations on the first day of operations, said the tactile pathways provided, particularly at Bandar Utama Station, greatly assisted the mobility of PwD users.

“I find that the tactile accessibility (guiding paths) is very effective as it leads directly to the PwD toilets, male surau, female surau and lifts. This is a very good improvement.

“So far everything is good, but in terms of access to information, there is still room for enhancement,” he said when met by reporters during a visit in conjunction with the first day of LRT3 Shah Alam Line operations at Glenmarie 2 station here today.

The LRT3 Shah Alam Line project, involving an investment of RM16.63 billion, is among the government’s strategic investments to strengthen the country’s public transport infrastructure.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced free rides for the LRT3 Shah Alam Line for all passengers from today until July 31, including feeder bus services operated by Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) along the route.

Meanwhile, private sector employee Samantha Fong, 26, said travelling via the LRT3 is easier and more time-efficient as it allows direct journeys between Bandar Utama and Glenmarie 2 without additional interchanges.

However, she hopes that women-only coaches can be considered in the future to enhance passenger comfort.

“Today’s experience was good and the waiting time for the train was not long. I think the LRT3 line is convenient and very helpful,” she said.

Another private sector employee, Rainchie Lee, 26, shared a similar view, describing her first experience on the LRT3 as smooth and comfortable.

She said the one-month free fare provides an opportunity for more users, including students and workers, to assess the suitability of the line as their daily mode of transport.

“It’s good because everyone can try it, including students and workers, to see whether this route suits them and makes their daily commute easier in the future,” she said.
