MBOT has recognised 107,423 technologists and technicians, expanding into AI and robotics, and is a full signatory to the international Seoul Accord.
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 107,423 technologists and technicians have received professional recognition from the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) as of October this year.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang said the recognition covers 24 technology fields.
He stated that MBOT is expanding its recognition to emerging fields like robotics and artificial intelligence to ensure they are on the same professional footing as engineering and medicine.
“This creates a formal pathway for technically skilled and technology-based talent to be recognised as Professional Technologists (Ts.) and Certified Technicians (Tc.),” he said in the Dewan Rakyat.

He was responding to a question from Datuk Larry Sng about efforts to strengthen talent in emerging technologies.
Chang said MBOT has a dedicated AI framework for accrediting academic programmes.
The framework currently applies to AI-related programmes at Universiti Kuala Lumpur, University College of Yayasan Pahang, and Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah.
To support lifelong learning, MBOT also accredits advanced technology short courses.
These include courses in integrated circuit design, semiconductors, and Internet of Things automation.
Responding to a supplementary question, Chang confirmed MBOT collaborates with international bodies.
He said MBOT is a full signatory to the Seoul Accord.
The Seoul Accord is an international co-accreditation agreement for computing and ICT programmes.
It involves countries including Australia, Canada, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom. – Bernama
