3 crew members killed, three injured in container fire during unloading operations at Port of Tanjung Pelepas, with firefighting efforts ongoing.
ISKANDAR PUTERI: Three crew members died and three others were injured in a container fire aboard the MSC Kyparissia at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas this afternoon.
The Johor Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 12.23 pm, with a team from Iskandar Puteri station arriving at 12.40 pm.
The fire erupted during unloading operations in the under-hatch area of Block 5 of the vessel.
The deceased included a 59-year-old Malaysian man, a Filipino man in his 40s, and a British man also in his 40s.
The injured comprised a 26-year-old Malaysian man and two Filipino men in their 40s.
All injured personnel were transported to Gleneagles Hospital Iskandar Puteri by the PTP ambulance.
Initial firefighting was conducted by the PTP Fire and Rescue team using two tugboats, supported by unloading operations at Quay 118.
A Forward Control Post was established at the scene, with firefighting efforts continuing with assistance from PTP personnel.
Nine firefighters, a Fire Rescue Tender, and a utility vehicle were deployed for the operation, with further updates to follow. – Bernama
