JAKARTA: Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin confirmed that 61 Malaysian students previously stranded at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport will fly home tonight at 7.55 pm local time.

The Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta has worked with a local travel agent to protect the students’ interests during this difficult period.

Ambassador Syed Mohamad Hasrin expressed hope that similar incidents can be prevented in the future through better coordination.

He extended gratitude to the Malaysian travel agent who assisted the students throughout their four-day visit to Jakarta.

The ambassador also hoped for an amicable resolution between the Malaysian agent and programme organiser regarding payment and other outstanding matters.

Media reports on Friday revealed that 61 school students from Selangor faced more than three hours of stranding at the Jakarta airport due to transportation and accommodation problems.

The affected students came from Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Selasih and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bukit Kapar in Selangor.

They had arrived in Jakarta on a flight from Kuala Lumpur International Airport when the stranding occurred around 3 pm local time. – Bernama
