Actor Shaheizy Sam says Bung Moktar was a gentle family man at home, contrasting his fiery parliamentary persona, after the MP’s passing
KOTA KINABALU: Actor Shaheizy Sam Abdul Samad described the late Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin as a man of great kindness to his family and constituents.
He said his brother-in-law showed a side completely different from the aggressive, outspoken persona he often displayed in Parliament.
“At home, he was a different man,“ Shaheizy Sam told reporters at the Kota Kinabalu City Mosque.
“You would never hear him raise his voice or get angry. He was tender with his children.“
He added that Bung Moktar never refused anyone in his constituency who wanted to meet him.
Shaheizy Sam said his family learned the Kinabatangan MP’s health had deteriorated yesterday.
His sister Datin Seri Zizie Izette then broke the news of her husband’s passing early this morning.
The actor said he usually helped with his brother-in-law’s election campaigns.
He noted that Bung Moktar had seemed unwell during the recent 17th Sabah State Election.
“On the last day of campaigning, he seemed drained and exhausted, unlike before,“ he said.
Shaheizy Sam added that Bung Moktar often reminded him to always put his mother first for success.
Bung Moktar, 66, died at a private hospital in Kota Kinabalu at 1.46 am, his son Naim Kurniawan Moktar confirmed.
His remains were taken to his Luyang home for funeral prayers at the Kota Kinabalu City Mosque.
He was laid to rest at the Kampung Likas Muslim Cemetery after Friday prayers.
Bung Moktar had retained the Lamag state seat in the Sabah polls on November 29. – Bernama
