Traffic slows on the East Coast and North-South Expressways as Malaysians head home for Aidilfitri, with breakdowns causing significant delays.
KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic flow on several major highways slowed this morning as the Aidilfitri exodus began.
A Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesperson said congestion was reported at two main locations as of 8 am.
Traffic on the East Coast Expressway (LPT) is slow between Lintang and Bentong due to a high volume of vehicles.
Congestion has also been detected on the KL-Karak Expressway heading east.
Slow-moving traffic stretches 9.8 kilometres from KM48.1 to KM57.9 near Bukit Tinggi.
“This is due to a broken-down vehicle obstructing the fast lane along the stretch,” the spokesperson told Bernama.
On the PLUS highway, traffic is slow from Kuala Kangsar to Changkat Jering.
This follows a trailer breakdown at KM264.4 northbound, from Ipoh Utara to Kuala Kangsar, which has blocked the left lane.
The LLM confirmed traffic conditions at that location remain manageable.
Traffic on other major routes, including those heading south, was reported as under control.
