Bangladesh PM commits to stronger ties with Anwar

Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman vows to deepen ties with Malaysia after his first state visit, praising shared bonds and cooperation.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is committed to working closely with his Malaysian counterpart Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to further strengthen the multifaceted partnership with Malaysia, as he concluded his first state visit as the country’s premier on Monday.

He said Bangladesh greatly values the bilateral and multilateral ties with Malaysia, highlighting the people-to-people connectivity that binds the two nations across various sectors and all walks of life.

“My wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman and I extend our heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his gracious wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, for their incredibly warm welcome and hospitality.

“We are deeply touched by the friendship, gesture, and goodwill extended by the government of Malaysia and its friendly people,” he said through the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs’s post on X.

Tarique said the discussions with Anwar also reaffirmed the enduring bonds between Bangladesh and Malaysia that go beyond shared commitment to greater cooperation, prosperity and regional progress.

“This is a cherished relation that dates back many decades to the time when my father, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, was the President and my mother, Begum Khaleda Zia, was the Prime Minister of Bangladesh,” he added.

The premier also conveyed sincere appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, for his time and warmth during the meeting.
