Malaysia targets RM100 million in investment, sales at MIFA 2026 debut in France

Malaysia aims for RM100 million in investment and sales at its first MIFA 2026 appearance in France, with 11 local animation companies showcasing their work.

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia is targeting RM100 million in investment and sales through its maiden participation in the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Market (MIFA) 2026 in France.

In a statement today, the Ministry of Communications said the country is represented by 11 local animation companies, showcasing Malaysia’s standing as a competitive hub for the creative and animation industry on the global stage.

According to the ministry, the world’s largest animation festival and market, held from June 21 to 27, is a strategic platform for Malaysia to promote local intellectual property (IP), explore co-production opportunities, expand business networks, and strengthen ties with international industry players.

“An estimated RM100 million in investment and sales is expected through potential co-production collaborations, animation services, creative content investment, IP distribution, as well as the entry of international production projects into Malaysia via the Film in Malaysia Incentive (FIMI),” it said.

The ministry said the festival is also expected to open up opportunities for local companies to build international networks, attract investments, and enhance marketability.

“This effort is in line with the government’s aspiration to strengthen the competitiveness of the country’s creative industry and boost the export potential of Malaysia’s creative content to international markets,” it said.
